NAPRTCS was founded in 1987.
- The initial operational objective was to obtain the voluntary participation of all kidney transplant centers in North America in which more than four pediatric patients received kidney allografts annually.
- The initial scientific objective included capture of information about current practice and trends in immunosuppressive therapy with an ultimate goal of improving the care of pediatric renal allograft recipients in North America.
- By 1994, NAPRTCS had expanded the registry to studies for all phases of treatment for end stage renal disease in children, including chronic kidney disease, dialysis, and kidney transplantation.
- NAPRTCS expanded its scope by developing a multi-center clinical trials network in 1994.
- In 2009 NAPRTCS leveraged the power of the registries to provide Benchmarking Tools for pediatric CKD and ESRD care.
- The Children’s Hospital Association launched the Standardizing Care to Improve Outcomes in Pediatric End-Stage Renal Disease (SCOPE) Collaborative in 2011. This quality transformation project was developed and implemented through a partnership with NAPRTCS.
